By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday commissioned the Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo, describing the project as a major milestone in his administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure and transform the state.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Adeleke said the inauguration of the bridge marked the beginning of the commissioning of several completed projects across Osun.

“My dear people of Osun, today is a historic day for Osogbo and for us in Osun. With joy and gratitude to God Almighty, I stand before you to officially commission the Lameco Flyover Bridge,” the governor said.

He thanked residents of Osogbo for their patience throughout the construction period and commended the engineers, contractors and other workers whose efforts made the project possible.

“This project is not an isolated one. Today marks the commencement of the unveiling of several mega projects initiated by our government. It is part of our promise to rebuild Osun through infrastructure that touches the lives of our people, including roads, bridges, health, education and water,” he said.

Adeleke stated that the projects were executed in line with due process and transparency without placing unnecessary financial burdens on future generations.

“The quality of this flyover confirms the effectiveness of our local content model. We have demonstrated that our local engineers can deliver projects that meet world-class standards. The Lameco Flyover is proof that when resources and people are properly managed, good governance becomes the result,” he added.

The governor disclosed that his administration had completed more than 27 kilometres of intra-city roads in Osogbo and over 300 kilometres of roads across the state.

According to him, more than 10 major projects have been completed and are ready for commissioning, adding that his administration has ensured fairness and equity in the distribution of infrastructure across Osun.

He urged residents to safeguard the newly commissioned bridge by avoiding activities that could damage the facility.

“There should be no street trading on the bridge or under the underpass. There should be no vandalisation of the railings or streetlights. Let us own it, keep it clean and maintain it for the next generation. Our drivers and commuters must also use the bridge responsibly because it was built to save lives, not to endanger them,” Adeleke said.

In his remarks, the President of the Osogbo Progressive Union (OPU) commended the governor for fulfilling his campaign promises, describing the flyover as another testament to his commitment to the development of Osogbo.

He prayed for Adeleke ahead of the August 15 governorship election, saying the people of Osogbo appreciated the projects executed by his administration.

“He has done well in Osogbo, and we believe the people will appreciate these achievements. We also appeal for more developmental projects for our town,” he said.

Also speaking, the Ataoja of Osogbo praised the governor for what he described as his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people.

“I have nothing more to say than to thank you for this wonderful job. I still stand with Governor Adeleke. We had an agreement with him, and that agreement remains intact,” the monarch said.

The traditional ruler also alleged that he had previously faced threats because of his support for the governor, claiming that a man once entered his palace at night carrying a sword. He said he had evidence, including photographs, of the suspect and maintained that the incident would not deter his support for Adeleke.
