Experts Advocate Integration of AI and STEM for Sustainable Development in Osun State

Stakeholders in science, technology, and education have called for a renewed commitment to STEM education and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in achieving sustainable development in Osun State.

This call was made during Reboot STEM 1.0, with the theme ” AI, Rebotics and STEM Education for Functional Green Architecture in Osun State” organised by Reboot Academy, held on Friday at SQI College of ICT, Osogbo.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Mr. Gbenga Faminu, Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation and member of Recruit Creative Hub, said the initiative aims to rebuild STEM education in the state through advocacy and strategic collaboration between government, industry, and academia.

“The idea is to drive a strong advocacy that can get people in government, industries, and academia to pay attention to STEM education in Osun State. We should rebirth STEM education in the state.

“Our strategic communication approach involves a six-month training phase and a six-month physical project phase, which will culminate in October 2026. Schools with functional STEM clubs that meet the participation requirements will be eligible, and there are reward packages for these schools,” he added.

Faminu also commended the state media for their support, noting that their involvement would help spread the initiative across all schools in Osun State.

In his words, one of the guest speakers, Architect Goke Omigbodun emphasized the importance of designing buildings that improve human life without compromising the environment.

“Architects should think of activities that make life easier for people while ensuring that future generations live comfortably. That is sustainable architecture. AI can help a lot, especially when architects apply technology to their designs,” he noted.

Omigbodun also urged the government to support the establishment of more technology hubs across the state.

“I always believe we should have a lot of tech hubs sponsored by the government. For instance, in Garage Olode, there has been no electricity for the past 20 years government intervention is needed so young people there can access opportunities,” he said.

He further advised participants to take keen interest in sustainable development and actively engage in nation-building.

“These young people inspire me. My advice to them is to be interested in sustainable development and in all aspects of life, including politics,” he added.

One of the participants, Gbadeyo Daniella from Osun State Unity School, described the program as an eye-opener.

“To enhance the economy of our nation, it should not just be about money but about providing solutions. Before now, we used to think in terms of what we want to become, but now we are learning to think of the problems we want to solve using STEM and AI.

“We have been enlightened on how to use AI effectively for our own advantage,” she added.

An architecture student from Osun State University, Abiodun Idris, appreciated the organisers and sponsors for bringing the creative hub to Osun State, describing it as a great opportunity for young people to learn, innovate, and contribute to sustainable development.
