Five armed robbers arrested in South Africa

Officers from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), in collaboration with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security, successfully apprehended five suspects involved in a robbery in Orange Grove. 
 
The suspects, two females and three males, were arrested on Sunday morning, March 2, 2025. 
 
At approximately 06:45 am on Sunday, March 2, 2025, while refuelling at a BP filling station on Louis Botha Avenue, a visibly distressed male approached the officers. 
 
He informed them that he had been robbed by five individuals in a red Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of 7th Street and Louis Botha Avenue. 
 
The suspects had stolen his money and cellphones and even transferred funds from his bank account to their own devices. In response, the officers quickly took the victim with them to identify the suspects and their vehicle. 
 
After calling for additional support, they were able to locate the suspect vehicle parked near Pick ‘n Pay in Bramley View. 
 
Through effective coordination with private security, JMPD CCTV, Tactical Response Units (TRU), and SAPS, the team entered the mall and successfully apprehended all five suspects. 
 
During the apprehension, all stolen items belonging to the victim were recovered from the suspects. 
 
They have been charged with robbery and possession of stolen property and are currently being held at Norwood SAPS, awaiting a court appearance.
