MultiChoice hikes DStv, GOtv bundle prices for third time In 2023

Pay TV company MultiChoice Nigeria has announced an increase in the DStv and GOtv bundle pricing for the third time in 2023, amid persistent economic difficulties occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and the decision of the President Bola Tinubu-led government to float the naira.

With the most recent hike which is 17% higher than the previous prices, GOtv subscribers will now pay N12,500 for the Supa+ package, the highest subscription price, instead of the original N10,500.

Additionally, DStv subscribers will now pay N29,500 instead of the N24,500 that was previously charged to premium subscribers.

The current rise comes just as Nigerians struggle with the knock-on effects of the elimination of fuel subsidy as well as the depreciating value of their national currency on the foreign exchange market.

News About Nigeria gathered that MultiChoice had previously raised the bouquet pricing for DStv and GOtv. recall that the pay TV company raised the price of its membership bundle by 17% in May after raising the costs of the bouquets earlier in the year.

While hiking its bouquet price in May, MultiChoice Nigeria cited the economic hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy for its decision.

Although Multichoice has not yet released an official statement regarding the new price increase, the firm did announce the initial increase in May and blamed economic challenges.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that Nigeria’s inflation rate rose from 25.80% in August 2023 to 26.72% in September.

However, Nigerians have continued to register their displeasure with the Pay TV platform, with many subscribers suggesting that they might jettison DStv and GOtv for other brands like StarTimes.
