•••We will resist any gang-up against Ooni of Ife
The Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams has warned those behind the religious crisis in Ile-Ife, Osun State, to desist.
The Southwest leader, on Tuesday, stated that Yoruba land will resist any attempt to denigrate the revered stool and palace of the Ooni of Ife.
Adams reacted to the crisis between Muslims and traditional worshippers in Ile-Ife, saying the palace remains the sacred heritage of the indigenes.
Speaking in Amuwo-Odofin in Lagos at the “Harvest of Praise” programme of the Eledumare Festival, he berated those fanning the embers of war.
The high chief vowed that Yoruba elders would not fold their hands and watch religious fanatics cause an avoidable disruption of peace.
“Muslims, Christians and traditional religion believers have been living together in peace in Ile-Ife for centuries without crisis.
“Why are some people now using religion to fan the embers of discord in Yoruba land. Ooni’s palace is our glass house, it is our heritage.
“Nobody, no matter how highly placed in our society, has the audacity to throw stones at the palace, which is the heritage of my race.”
Adams, however, hailed the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi for “handling the Ife crisis in a mature manner”.
The Aare reiterated his responsibility to defend the sacred stool and throne “because it is the pride of all sons and daughters of Yoruba race”.
