Members of the Osun State House of Assembly, led by the Deputy Speaker, Akinyode Oyewusi, on Sunday, visited Akinlalu community to commiserate with the victims of last Tuesday’s attack by operatives of Osun Amotekun.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that residents of Akinlalu, a community in Ife North Local Government Area of the state, accused the operatives of Amotekun Corps of killing four people when they invaded the town last Tuesday.
The state Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has also ordered a full investigation into the killing that occurred in the community.
The governor, subsequently dispatched a top-level government delegation to the affected community to find out what transpired on the day of the incident.
Addressing the residents at the palace of the Alakinla of Akinlalu, Oba Oluwabusola Oloyede, the deputy speaker assured the community that the state government would ensure justice for the victims.
Oyewusi, who represents the people of the constituency at the state assembly, appealed to the community youths allow for proper investigation and not to take the law into their hands.
“We are here to commiserate with the families and the town over what happened. We also want to beg the youth of Akinlalu to allow peace to reign.
“Ife North is a peaceful region. We don’t have power over what has happened, but we want to assure our people that the state government and the police have already started an investigation into the matter, and I am assuring my people that justice will be served.
“We are waiting for the report of the police and the committee set up by the state government and by God’s grace, the perpetrators will not go freely. We will ensure justice for the victims.”
The deputy while speaking with victims’ families, promised that the government would do the necessary things to support the families.
“My message to your family is to accept this as fate. I pray God will comfort you, and I want to assure you that the government will do everything necessary to support these families,” Oyewusi said while addressing the family of Mr Oyebamiji, who lost three children during the attack.
The youth leader of Akinlalu, Musibau Adeboye, appealed to the state government to ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
Adeboye also called for a police station in the community, noting that the incident might have been prevented if the community had one.
Adebayo said, “I want to appreciate the members of the state assembly for their efforts on this issue, particularly the deputy speaker. Since the incident occurred, he has been with us and he has assured us of the government’s readiness to ensure justice.
“I’ve spoken with my people and we have agreed to remain calm and allow for proper investigation. Our hope and belief is that the people involved in these barbaric acts will be brought to justice.
“I want to appeal to the state government to bring back the police post in Akinlalu. If there had been a police post during the incident, it might not have been as brutal as it was. Before the police could arrive from Ipetumodu that day, the Amotekun personnel had wreaked havoc on residents of the community.”
It would be recalled that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a full investigation into the killing that occurred in the community.
The governor has subsequently dispatched a top-level government delegation to the affected community to find out what transpired on the day of the incident.
Adeleke’s decision to probe the incident was contained in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, made available to the journalists in Osogbo on Saturday.
Rasheed said his principal expressed deep shock at the deaths of some individuals from the town after receiving a preliminary report from his Special Adviser on Security Matters.
