The National Directorate of Employment has decried the increasing rate of social vices in the country.It described the rising number of unemployment as its cause.
Disclosing this on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the NDE-Entreprise and Finance Counselling Clinic training, the Director-General of NDE, Abubakar Fikpo, said more tertiary institutions are emerging, however, opportunities are stifled.
Fikpo, who was represented by the State Coordinator, Jediel Stephen, said the situation has resulted in the rise in anti-social behaviours.
The DG said, “I am sure you are aware that statistics of unemployment in Nigeria are high. It is also important to note that more universities are emerging, which would mean more graduates being churned out of these universities to join the already bloated labour market.
“This particular situation can only result in frustration and give rise to various anti- social behaviours such as youth restiveness, prostitution, robbery. kidnapping, and other social ills resulting from joblessness.”He said the unemployment rate in the country has reached an alarming situation that demands immediate solution.
While urging the participants to endeavour to get the rudiments of the opportunity, Fikpo said that the NDE-EFCC concept was borne out of the desire to provide opportunity for business persons facing challenge.He added that the idea was to provide solutions through experience sharing with other businessmen or through the counselling sessions with established business persons that are part of the facilitators of the training.
