Activities marking the 50th anniversary of creating the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme commenced nationwide with a Unity Walk to kick start the chain of events that will last for one week.
In Yobe, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Hafsat Yerima led hundreds of corps members and members of staff on a walk through some major streets of Damaturu metropolis, the state capital.
The walk had corps members carrying banners and placards with various inscriptions depicting the giant strides of the Scheme in the five decades of its existence.
Earlier before the commencement of the walk, the State Coordinator addressed the gathering stating that; the NYSC is celebrating 50 years of selfless service to humanity, committed and dedicated sacrifice to nation-building as well as developmental strides in all national spheres.
The Coordinator thanked individuals and corporate bodies as well as governments and all stakeholders for their unflinching support to the NYSC Scheme over the years.
She enjoined corps members to continue to be good ambassadors of the Scheme in all their activities.

High point of the walk was when some members of the public joined the procession in appreciation of the good works of the scheme.
