The Osun State House of Assembly has condemned the forceful sealing of the operational offices of the Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, by federal security operatives
The speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun stated this while addressing a Press Conference on Friday in Osogbo describing the action as “constitutionally offensive and deeply troubling.”
Egbedun said the Amotekun Corps was established under the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Law 2020 to complement federal security agencies in fighting kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes across the state, noting that since its creation, the corps had significantly improved security, especially in rural and border communities.
The Speaker faulted the alleged action of the federal security operatives, stating that shutting down a legally established state security outfit without due consultation or process was unacceptable.
“If any breach of security occurs in Osun State as a result of the sealing of Amotekun offices, the Nigeria Police Force and relevant security agencies will be held accountable,” Egbedun advised.
He added that credible reports linked the sealing of the offices to political interference involving Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, describing such involvement if proven true as ” reckless abuse of political influence and a betrayal of Osun people.”
The Assembly, however, sympathized with the families affected by recent security operations in Akinlalu, stating that any alleged misconduct by security personnel should be investigated transparently and not used as a pretext to undermine state institutions.
“Security is not a political bargaining chip. The lives of our people are not pawns on any chessboard of political ambition,” he added.
