… Says former Senate minority leaders will help Tinubu remove discomfort
South-East leaders on Monday dismissed the chances of Abdulaziz Yari, Orji Kalu and Osita Izunaso in the senate presidency race.
‘’We are pleased that Senator Godswill Akpabio was endorsed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as senate president and we are extremely grateful to President Bola Tinubu, senators-elect and the leadership of the ruling party’’ the leaders said in Enugu.
The leaders also warned against electing a capricious person as senate president.
‘’We admire Senator Godswill Akpabio greatly. He remains the most satisfactory of those eyeing the senate presidency. Those for whom poor education and wastage of resources are the major virtues will not look with admiration upon Senator Godswill Akpabio’’.
The leaders who met under the auspices of the South-East Unity and Advancement Forum (SEUAM) to advance the position of the zone in the senate presidency, hailed Akpabio for devoting himself to the furtherance of human happiness.
‘’The function of government is to remove oppression and increase liberty. Senator Godswill Akpabio will safeguard the interests of the majority and protect smaller elements’’.
In a statement titled, South-East has spoken, the leaders urged senators-elect to teach Kalu, Yari and Izunaso a lesson in democracy.
‘’Godswill Akpabio is very simple and puritanical. He has a very good intellect, gifted with reason and understands the making and law changing powers of government’’.
The statement was signed by the Chairman of the South -East Unity and Advancement Forum (SEUAM), Chief Maxwell Okoye.
‘’Senator Godswill Akpabio is an outstanding leader and an adherent to the principle of utility. He’s got a lot of sense and marshals his facts well. His importance in Southern and Northern Nigeria remains beyond dispute’’.
The statement highlighted Senator Akpabio’s intellect, conscience, and strength of reason.
‘’Senator Godswill Akpabio’s brain is nimble. His development efforts in the Niger Delta leave much to be desired’.
It also emphasized Akpabio’s contribution to the stability of Nigerian politics.
‘’It will be folly to ignore his achievements as senate minority leader. It would be hard to find any corner of Akwa Ibom State where the effort of Akpabio is not working today.
‘’Senator Godswill Akpabio, a saintly man, a great fighter for freedom, equality and advocate of industrial as well as of political democracy, is our choice for senate president’’ the statement added.
