The Senator-Elect, Akogun Lere Oyewumi is delighted to join millions of patriotic Nigerians all over the world to celebrate Democracy Day.
He called on Nigerians to foster national unity, stressing that there is hope for the country.
Akogun Lere Oyewumi, who stated this in his goodwill message, issued on Monday and received by SAHEL, to commemorate 2023 Democracy Day, urged Nigerians not to give up on the country.
According to the message, He noted that great nations that are celebrated today have had their fair share of national tribulations and challenges in their journey into nationhood.
“I join esteemed constituents of the Osun West Senatorial District and Nigerians in general in commemorating 2023 Democracy Day. No doubt, the democratic journey that started in 1999 is not without hiccups. The challenges notwithstanding, we should not be quick to dismiss the commemoration of Democracy Day especially the tortuous June 12 struggle as a non-event. Because it’s more than just a date for the Nigerians as it represents a milestone in the journey to entrench a democratic polity” he said.
Akogun Lere Oyewumi also urged the National Assembly Members to do their part by providing the needed legislative framework for the Executive Arm of Government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. Akogun Lere Oyewumi noted that democracy could only be meaningful when democratic governments at all levels embark on programs that would enhance the well-being of the masses and make life more abundant, meaningful, and abundant.
