The winner of the Big Brother Naija Season 9 ‘No Loose Guard’ edition, Sule Kingsley, popularly known as Kellyrae, has disclosed that he has never had one million naira in his account.
He made this statement to newsmen while receiving his cash prize of N6 million and a brand new customized Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing car worth N40 million.
He stated, “I won’t lie to you. I have made millions, but I’ve never had one million like this in my account at once. But if I have to calculate how much I have spent, I would say I have spent up to a million. Never, it has happened. I won’t lie to you.“
Speaking about his experience in the house, he said, “At no point did I feel I was going to win. You know, I was just praying in my head, ‘God, please keep us here for the first and second week at least,’ because if we had left in the first week, I kept thinking, what are we leaving behind? What are we leaving with? Those are the two things I had in my head: we have to leave with something, and we have to leave something behind. Even if we leave with all the money, it is what we leave behind that people will talk about, and those are the things that open more doors for us. So in my head, I was just praying for the first, or second week at least. We were here for the first week, second week, third week, fourth week, and after that, anything that happens, God takes all the glory.
“Also, because of what I’ve heard about Big Brother Naija, the kind of content that people love, I thought people liked Wanni, Handi, and Onyeka.”
On how to balance his fame with marriage, he said, “Before we came on the show, I knew what to expect, and I had a discussion with my wife, saying that life would not be the same anymore. This is what we should expect, so it’s fine; I’m ready for it.”
Continuing on his strategy in the house, he explained, “A strategy for me and my wife was to connect with people. You saw there were times when Onyeka and I danced, Handy and I danced during the parties, along with some other girls. If I had come in as a married man, you saw how the girls were giving Dr. TJ space; they were not dancing with him. The guys wouldn’t have danced with my wife; they wouldn’t have been free if they had known she was married. I didn’t want that; I wanted to connect; I wanted friends in the house.”
Speaking about the number of viewers for Season 9, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, Dr. Busola Tejumola, said this season has outperformed the previous ones in terms of statistics. “It’s above the previous season. Every season of Big Brother requires higher viewership, and this season was no different. Don’t forget that people don’t watch Big Brother on social media; they watch it on TV. From a viewership point of view, yes, we did require higher viewership.
“Every year, we have to be creative. We always changed the creative aspect, and this year was very different. Our creative concept was for them to come in pairs. It is a social experiment, so we thought it would be great to see the interactions, engagement, and experiences that housemates could have with people they love.”
Speaking on challenges, Tejumola added, “I call them learnings. There were a lot of learnings for us this season. Navigating the economic landscape this year was a bit challenging, but we learned from it. It made us more creative. Yes, we were on air 24 hours a day for 10 weeks.”
When asked about the necessary steps being taken to ensure sponsors fulfill their promises to winners, to avoid situations like Phyna’s, she remained silent.
