In a significant move to position Osun State as a leading agricultural producer in Nigeria, the State Government moves to sign a bilateral agreement with the Government of Belgium to boost agricultural produce, particularly cash crops like Cocoa.
The move was made during a visit by the Belgium Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Pieter Leenknegt, to the Osun State Government.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, assured the Ambassador of a conducive atmosphere for investment, citing Osun’s peace and security, vast arable lands, raw materials, and energy generation capabilities if effected.
The Deputy Governor expressed confidence that the partnership would enhance the State’s agricultural sector, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
“Osun has what it takes to become a leading agricultural producer in Nigeria, and this move to partner with Belgium will help us achieve that goal,” he said.
Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt welcomed the opportunity to partner with Osun State, saying his visit was aimed at fostering mutual cooperation and exchange of expertise in farming operations.
“We are excited about the potential of this partnership and look forward to working with the Osun State Government to boost agricultural produce and improve the lives of farmers,” he said.
The Ambassador expressed his readiness to swing into action soon, pending the conclusion of necessary arrangements.
This partnership is expected to open up new opportunities for Osun State farmers, enhance the State’s agricultural output, and contribute to the country’s food security.
