Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Roma after the Giallorossi won just one of their last six Serie A games and were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by city rivals Lazio.
The 60-year-old was announced as manager in May 2021.
Mourinho’s contract runs until the end of the 23/24 season but has been brought forward after the team’s dismal performances this season.
The club statement reads: “We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
Roma has struggled this season and sits ninth in the Serie A table. The 3-1 loss to Milan last Sunday was the team’s third defeat in five league games and Mourinho’s final game in charge of the Italian side.
Mourinho led Roma to their first European title in 2022 by winning the Europa Conference League, and he led the team to the final of the Europa League the following season.
