Tinubu-Adeleke Alliance Will Address Osun People’s Demands, Group Says
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
The Osun Leaders of Thought, a socio-political group, has expressed optimism that the alliance between President Bola Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke will accelerate development in the state and address some of the pressing concerns of residents.
The group said the partnership would improve the state’s access to federal interventions, promote justice for victims of pre-election violence, facilitate the resolution of the lingering local government crisis and speed up the rehabilitation of federal roads across Osun.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the group said the alliance would also improve residents’ access to federal social investment and poverty alleviation programmes.
The statement, signed by Alhaji Gboyega Olaide on behalf of the group’s Executive Council, followed concerns in some quarters over Adeleke’s inclusion in the President’s re-election campaign team.
Defending the governor’s decision, the group described it as a demonstration of political maturity, pragmatic statesmanship and commitment to the collective interests of the people.
It maintained that Adeleke had neither betrayed the electorate nor abandoned his electoral promises by aligning with Tinubu.
The group, which said it began advocating an alliance between the two leaders about two years ago, described the partnership as an opportunity to address issues affecting the political, economic and social interests of Osun residents.
“We affirm that the alliance represents a selfless push to protect Osun voters and secure the rights that were threatened in the countdown to the August 15 election,” the statement said.
On the issue of pre-election violence, the group expressed hope that the alliance would help ensure justice for victims and accountability for those responsible for killings and injuries.
“For the victims of the electoral violence, justice will be served. There is no hidden place for those who killed and maimed Osun people. This is a huge gain for the alliance,” it added.
The group also raised concerns over the management of federal social investment funds intended to benefit residents of the state, alleging that some politicians had prevented eligible beneficiaries from accessing the funds.
It expressed confidence that the partnership would promote transparency in the administration of the programmes and enable more Osun residents to benefit from federal poverty alleviation initiatives.
“We are equally elated that there will be more transparency in the handling of the multi-billion-naira federal social investment fund meant for Osun State,” the statement said.
On the lingering local government crisis, the group said it expected a resolution in the coming weeks, adding that a negotiated settlement was nearing completion.
It described the dispute over local government leadership as a major source of public discontent and called for urgent intervention to restore normalcy to council administration and grassroots activities.
“Soon, the local government system will be back on stream and workers and the grassroots will return to normalcy,” the statement added.
The group further identified federal road infrastructure as another critical area where the alliance could deliver tangible benefits to the state.
While acknowledging the Adeleke administration’s efforts in infrastructure development, it said the condition of federal roads remained a major concern for residents and called for accelerated rehabilitation and reconstruction.
According to the group, closer cooperation between the state and federal governments could fast-track work on roads and other federal projects across Osun.
Acknowledging public reservations about the political development, the group appealed to residents to remain hopeful and watch for tangible results in the coming weeks.
It commended Tinubu and Adeleke for what it described as their willingness to rise above partisan differences in pursuit of interests beneficial to the people.
“We commend the President and the Governor. We particularly task Mr President to expedite actions on access to justice and resolution of the local government crisis. The political sacrifices of Mr Governor should be rewarded without delay,” the statement concluded.
