The Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, yesterday flagged off the second edition of the Imole Free Medical and Surgical outreach in Ilesha
The Governor in his address at the flag-off ceremony, had posited that his administration, “believe in a philosophy that it takes a healthy nation to build a wealthy nation. We will therefore continue to invest the state resources to improve the health status of our people. Today, we have come again, as a government that understands the need of its people to reach out to our citizens in order to alleviate their medical challenges. “
“We have again made provisions to take care of various medical cases. The Government has provided adequate medications for this exercise and shall provide reading glasses for those that may require them.
“The current outreach program will take place in six centers, with two (2) from each Senatorial district. We believe this will in no small measure reduce the current economic burden our people have had to bear”, Governor Ademola Adeleke reiterated at the ceremony.
After the flag-off ceremony, the Governor thereafter directed the Special Adviser on Public Health in the state Dr Akindele Adekunle and other sectoral heads of the Ministry of Health to do an on-spot assessment of the beneficiaries of the programme.
Dr Akindele during the visit to the different medical wards in State General Hospital, Ilesha where the beneficiaries are being provided free medical services by the state government said, the second edition of Imole Free Medical and Surgical Outreach is part of Governor Ademola Adeleke administration efforts at cushioning the economic burden on the people of the state and also in alleviating their medical challenges.
He further said what is been witnessed at the flag-off ceremony is the testament of the Governor to revamp the health sector of the state wholistically which will hitherto improve the well-being of the citizens and entire residents of the state.
Dr Akindele equally stated that in collaboration with a host of other stakeholders in health ministry and sector of the state, they will implement the directive of the Governor to make the outreach more sustainable, more inclusive and equally expand the scope of benefit for the entire state.
The CMD of the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital and coordinating head for the surgical operations Prof Babatunde Olaitan, stated that as at the first day, 2000 people had registered for different medical and surgical services while the outreach will continue the following day in the same location to accommodate more people.
The second edition of Imole Free Medical and Surgical outreach is expected to benefit about 30,000 people as the last edition had a counthead of 22,000 people that benefited from the free medical services provided for by the state government.
The train of the medical outreach will be moving to Ila, Iwo, Ife, Ede, and Osogbo at a later scheduled date.
Governor Ademola Adeleke lead the charge of other dignitaries at the event which includes, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, the SSG, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, the Party Chairman in the state, Hon Sunday Bisi, the commissioner for Health, Hon Jola Akintola, the Chairman Management Board Uniosun Teaching Hospital, Hon Niyi Owolade, the Chairman SUBEB, Hon Ibukun Fadipe, The Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed among other state government officials and political functionaries while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Isiaka Adekunle lead the charge of other career heads at the event.
