Ede South Local Government has won the fifth edition of the Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial football competition.
The final match competition between Ede South and Boripe Local Government ended 1-1 after the second half. The Agbale Warriors later emerged victorious 4:3 on penalties.
Earlier in the day, the Ejigbo local government team defeated Ilesa West Local Government in the third place match of the competition.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Governor Ademola Adeleke commended the sponsor of the competition, Rep Bamidele Salam, for his consistency and dedication.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Government Affairs and Protocols, Hon Soji Ajeigbe, admonished Osun citizens to always have regular exercise.
“The governor asked me to charge everyone to ensure they have regular exercise to keep their body and souls in good spirits. We must also make sure we examine our bodies regularly. Regular medical checkups are very important”, he noted.
While speaking with newsmen, Rep Salam appreciated everyone who supported the competition from the beginning to the end, describing the contest as another display of talents by Osun youths.
He said, “Every year is getting better and better. We’re grateful that after about 5 weeks of action in different parts of Osun state. We have come to the final edition of the Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial football competition and it’s very exciting with what we have seen in the Centre of the competition and the scintillating display of this final match, it’s obvious that football is developing fast, it’s growing well and the expertise of our young persons is improving every year.
“I appreciate everyone that has been part of the competition.”
The Chairman of the planning committee, Hon. Hezekiah Bamiji in his words, described the cooperation of the community members, players, media and citizens, as exceptional during the football competition.
“The enthusiasm of our players, all the coaches, all stakeholders throughout the competition is amazing”, he said.
In an interview with our correspondent, Coach Wasiu Ajayi from Ede South LG, disclosed that Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial football competition is the best competition he has witnessed in Osun state.
“This is not the first time we’ve won, this is the second time but since we have organised this competition my team has decided that we’re not going to lose because last year we came fourth.
“This competition is the only best competition in osun state, we’re grateful to Hon. Bamidele Salaam”, he noted.
