••• Police commences search, rescue operation to free the victims
A couple, whose names are yet to be ascertained, had been abducted by some unknown gunmen along Osogbo/Iragbiji road.
The victims were said to have been abducted in the early hours of Saturday while travelling on a motorcycle along the road.
A resident of Kelebe, a community located along Osogbo/Iragbiji Road, simply identified as Sanya, while speaking explained that the couple were abducted around 4 am on Saturday by gunmen, who took them to an undisclosed location in the forest.
Sanya said the couple were believed to be returning from a vigil when they were abducted.
According to him, “The perpetrators of the crime blocked the road with a log of wood, while the motorcycle that carried the victims suddenly ran into the barricade because it was still dark.
“The local hunters and police operatives from the state command were seen combing the forest along Osogbo/Iragbiji road to rescue the victims on Sunday, adding that the couple were still with their abductors as of Monday evening.”
When contacted on Monday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said police had commenced a search and rescue operation to free the victims.
“It was reported and we are working very hard to rescue the couple. Operatives are combing the bush in the area and we want to assure the public that the victims will be rescued and the perpetrators of the crime will not escape justice,” she said.
