The holy month of Ramadan will commence on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia following the sighting of the crescent moon on Tuesday evening.

The announcement was made by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia after receiving verified reports from authorised moon sighting committees across the Kingdom, in line with Islamic tradition.

With the confirmation, Muslims throughout the country will begin fasting from dawn on Wednesday, marking the start of the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Ramadan is observed with daily fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayers, acts of charity and spiritual reflection.

Mosques across the Kingdom have concluded preparations to host worshippers for the special Taraweeh prayers, while relevant authorities have put measures in place to ensure smooth religious and social activities during the period.

Government ministries and private sector organisations are also expected to adjust official working hours in accordance with the Ramadan schedule.

Meanwhile, Muslims across Nigeria are awaiting an official announcement on the commencement of Ramadan from the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, who traditionally declares the start of the fasting period in the country following verified moon sightings.
