Adeleke Denies Electoral Deal with ADC, Says Party Was Not Part of Alliance
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed claims that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) entered into an agreement with him to secure his re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke said there was no electoral deal or partnership between him and the ADC before, during or after the election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, also said the ADC was not part of the political alliance that supported his re-election campaign.
Adeleke attributed his victory to God and the people of Osun State, while commending political allies who worked for his success at the polls.
“I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance,” the governor said.
He said the contributions and sacrifices of his political partners were instrumental to the outcome of the election.
Adeleke also declared that, having secured a fresh mandate, he would govern in the interest of all residents of the state irrespective of their political affiliations, religious beliefs or ethnic backgrounds.
“Now that the election is over, I am a governor of all Osun people irrespective of political groups, religion or race,” he said.
The governor’s statement followed claims by the ADC concerning its alleged role in his victory at the election.
Adeleke was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The governor has since called for peace and unity in the state, saying his administration would remain focused on governance and the development of Osun State during his second term.
