Touched by the fatal collapse of the Obafemi Awolowo University ampitheatre which left some students seriously injured, the State Government has raised a delegation to inspect the scene and visit the injured students.

The government delegation led by the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Murtala Jimoh visited the Vice Chancellor of the University who then led the team to the scene as well as to the injured students at the university medical center and the OAU Teaching hospital, Ile Ife.

Speaking with the management of the institution, the Commissioner expressed the sympathy of the State government to the University community on the unfortunate incident.

He described the incident as particularly depressing because it occured at a time the students were having an academic exercise in the amphitheatre.

Hon. Eluwole assured the students, members of staff and management of the institution that the government and people of the State are with them in their time grief.

In his words” The Government is saddened to hear the incident and we want to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the affected students, their families and the University community.

“We understand that the University is already investigating the cause of the incident, we are glad to hear that the injured students are responding to medical treatment” he noted.

The Commissioner then assured of the State government’s readiness to foot the medical bill of the injured students and provide assistance in any other area necessary.

In his response the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Simeon Bamire appreciated the State Government for the visit, explaining that academics activities have returned to normal.

Prof. Bamire further called on the assistance of the State Government in helping to refurbish the structure.
