President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Enitan, who hails from Osun State, will assume office on August 27, 2026, following the retirement of the incumbent Head of Service, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to leave office after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Enitan is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.

He has served as Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, with postings to the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.

The statement said Enitan brings “considerable institutional experience and a deep understanding of how the Federal Civil Service works” to his new responsibility.

President Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service to consolidate the reforms and innovations already introduced in the Civil Service and further improve professionalism and efficiency.

The President also urged Enitan to lead a Civil Service that is “professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative, and responsive to Nigerians’ needs and aspirations.”

He said the new Head of Service should work towards building a more effective and responsive Civil Service capable of delivering on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to Walson-Jack for her “distinguished service to the nation” and for the reforms, innovations and impact recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.

He wished her “a fulfilling and successful life after service” and conveyed the nation’s gratitude for her years of dedicated public service.

Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.

He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2015.

His appointment takes effect from August 27, when he is expected to take over the leadership of Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service.
