Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has distributed food items and fabrics to 3,000 vulnerable households in the state.
According to him, the beneficiaries were selected from the most vulnerable groups in Gwange I, II III wards of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere council.
Distributing the items, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, he disclosed: “Today’s distribution is aimed at supporting over about 100, 000 vulnerable residents affected in the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency.
He said that each beneficiary would receive a bag and carton each of rice, spaghetti and fabrics with N10, 000.
Besides, he added that the food item pasta was also donated by Alhaji Akiko Dangote, as humanitarian gestures to the vulnerable groups in the metropolis and council.
Speaking on the distribution, he said:”This programme is part of the efforts of the state government to address poverty and food insecurity caused by economic recession in the country.”
He noted that despite the present economic recessions, the state government still fulfils its pledges improve people’s living conditions.
His words: “Since we came on board, we have not rested in our task of providing the desired leadership.
He added that one of such tasks was to ensure restoration of peace so that people’s livelihoods are restored with increased economic activities in communities.
Peace, according to him, has being gradually restored with the hopes of a bumper harvest this year.
Yagabana Bukar, a vulnerable mother of five lauded the Governor’s support to improve their living conditions in IDP camps and host communities.
