The Ogun State House of Assembly has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving the constituency projects’ funds.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, gave the commendation on Friday, during the plenary commemorating the second anniversary of the 10th State Assembly.
Elemide thanked the people of the state for having faith in them as they continued to give quality representation.
He also appreciated his fellow lawmakers and members of staff for their continued support in rendering quality legislative service towards promoting good governance in the state.
Elemide, however, explained that lawmakers would only facilitate the projects, saying the funds would only be paid to the contractors who won the bid to handle the projects.
He said the project would be handled in line with due process in project execution and supervised by the relevant government.
The speaker also appreciated the management of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, for donating a new mace to the House of Assembly.
“We will begin to use the new mace which serves as the symbol of authority for the House of Assembly, and the old one would be kept in the Assembly archive,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the old mace was immediately replaced with the new mace through a house resolution.
While speaking on the second anniversary, Elemide disclosed that the actual celebration of the anniversary has been shifted to a later date.
He said the postponed celebration would coincide with the commissioning of some of their constituency projects.
He added that some personal projects that had been done by all the lawmakers in their various constituencies in the last two years, would also be commissioned.
Also at the plenary, the speaker stressed the need for the Boundary Commission to tackle recurring boundary-related issues to checkmate the incessant boundary issues.
Elemide made the call while reacting to a personal explanation by a member, Mr Samusideen Lawal, representing Ogun Waterside constituency, who complained about boundary issues occurring in the constituency.
“We should have a sort of boundary commission in Ogun state that would liaise with the national boundary commission.
“Even at the state level, boundary issues should be reported to the national boundary commission, and if there is any issue or they need anything from the state, they should let the state know.
“To this end, I give it to the governor; he has been trying but should please do more in that regard so as to forestall any form of violence.
“This is because, if our people resort to violence, there will be no peace in that area and it is when we have peace that we can talk of development and economic growth in the state,” he said.
In the same vein, a bill titled: The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2025 scaled the first reading.
The Clerk/ Head of Legislative Service, Mr Sakiru Adebakin, read the bill for the first time before the state lawmakers.
