Osun Assembly passes Transport, Traffic and Park Management Bill 2026
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management Bill, 2026, following its third reading on the floor of the House.
The bill, which had earlier passed its second reading, was considered by the lawmakers after extensive deliberations on the need for a proper framework to regulate motor parks, garages, traffic and other transport-related activities across the state.
Sponsored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim, the bill is aimed at improving the administration of motor parks, traffic management and the collection of transport-related revenue in the state.
During the debate on the bill, Ibrahim said the legislation would help regulate revenue generated from motor parks and address leakages in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He said it would also provide a more accountable system for the collection and management of revenue generated from transport activities.
The bill also provides for the digitalisation of the ticketing system and a more organised system for the operation of motor parks across the state.
It further seeks to tackle thuggery, violence, extortion and other illegal activities associated with the operation of motor parks and garages.
The lawmakers stressed the need to maintain peace, order and safety in motor parks and garages, particularly in view of disputes that had occurred over the control and management of some parks in the state.
After consideration of the various provisions of the bill, the House proceeded to the third reading, leading to its passage into law.
Following the passage, the Speaker said the final copy of the bill would be transmitted to the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for his assent.
The legislation is expected to provide a legal framework for the more coordinated management of transportation, traffic and motor parks across Osun State.
The House thereafter adjourned its legislative proceedings.
