Tennis legend Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Adira River Ohanian. The couple announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday.
“Welcome, Adira River Ohanian,” Ohanian wrote. “I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama.”
Williams, 41, and Ohanian, 39, are already parents to a 4-year-old daughter, Olympia. The couple met in 2015 and were married in 2017.
Williams’ pregnancy was not without its challenges. She suffered a pulmonary embolism after giving birth to Olympia, and she had to be hospitalized for several days. However, she has since made a full recovery.
In a 2018 essay for Harper’s Bazaar, Williams wrote about her experience with the pulmonary embolism. She said that she had to fight for her life, and that she was “terrified” that she would not see her daughter grow up.
“I’m so grateful to be here,” she wrote. “I’m grateful for my family, my friends, my fans, and the medical team that saved my life.”
Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She is also a successful businesswoman and philanthropist.
The birth of Adira River is a joyous occasion for Williams and Ohanian. It is a sign of their love and commitment to each other, and it is a reminder of the power of the human spirit.
Congratulations to Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian on the arrival of their new baby girl!
