A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded a Rivers State monarch, the Eze Risi Ohia-Emeri Abali of Rebisi, Cyprian Amadi-Worenwu, in the Port Harcourt correctional facility following his arraignment on a one-count charge of cybercrime.
The traditional ruler allegedly transmitted a threatening message to retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, placing him in fear of death.
The message, sent on March 28, 2023, also allegedly threatened the judge’s son and boasted knowledge of his workplace.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The trial judge, Justice Emmanuel Obele, refused an oral bail application by the defence counsel, A. S. Amadi, opposed by prosecuting counsel, ASP Walter Ogwuikpile.
The prosecution opposed the application, citing the severity of the offence, which contravenes Section 24 (B.C) I. Prohibition Prevention etc Acts 2015.
Justice Obele adjourned to July 29 for bail consideration but remanded him in the correctional facility until the next adjourned date.
