Canadian High Commissioner Commends Wike For Creating Women Secretariat

The Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Christoff, has commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for creating the Women Affairs Secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Mr Christoff said such a move was in tune with international practice aimed at promoting the welfare of young women and girls.

The envoy, who visited the minister to congratulate him on his appointment, said Canada was proud of some of the steps taken by the minister to promote the welfare of the people of the territory, especially women and girls.

He reiterated his country’s readiness for a mutual relationship, especially in the area of agriculture, in the interest of the two parties.

Mr Wike expressed the administration’s willingness to partner with any nation that was ready to bring development to the nation’s capital.

The minister noted that the FCT had fertile lands for agriculture and would welcome any partnership that would lead to the tapping of such potential in the interest of youths.

He told the high commissioner that the security situation in the FCT was improving, adding that a joint task force had been set up to tackle the “One Chance” robbery menace for people to live peacefully.

He said, “On the issue of one chance, we established a task force to deal with one chance so that you can stay peaceful.’’
