Four suspects accused of stealing iron scraps at Dangote Mill, Osogbo, Osun State, have been arrested by some hunters and handed over to the State Police Command.
The two retired soldiers among the suspects, it was learnt, had access to the premises of the company located along Osogbo/Ikirun road, which they leveraged to steal the items.
A security source, who witnessed the arrest, said after the items had been successfully moved out of the premises, the ex soldiers took them to an uncompleted building in not far distance from the Mill.
Some hunters, who trailed them to the area, it was further learnt, laid ambush and monitored the building where the stolen items were kept.
“Not long after, two vehicles arrived. The first one conveyed the ex soldiers who stole the scraps, while the second one brought two other persons believed to be those that wanted to buy the items.
“At that point, those hunters that had traced the suspects to the area swooped on them and arrested the four men. The two vehicles they brought there were also seized.
“The uncompleted house where they kept the iron scraps is located in Alabameta Area. It is less than 3 kilometers from the Mill. They have been handed them over to the police,” the source who preferred anonymity said.
When contacted on Friday, Osun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed arrest of the suspects but could not provide details about those arrested.
She said, ” It is true. Four of them were arrested. They are in our custody. But I don’t really have the details yet. But I want to assure residents that we will continue to work hard to rid the state of crime.”
