Osun Water Corporation Board Chairman orders evacuation of private properties on government land

The Board Chairman, Osun State Water Corporation, Hon. Samuel Oyedotun has ordered an immediate evacuation of all private properties and business on lands belonging to Osun State Water Corporation.

Oyedotun who gave this order while inspecting offices and outlets of the corporation in Osogbo and Ede on Thursday explained that the order became necessary seeing that people are now building permanent structures on the lands without approval.

He added that strict measures will be taken against any individual or businesses found wanting while sending a note of warning to the people of Osun state to ensure that they don’t buy lands belonging to the government.

He said “We discovered that a whole community have been built on government land at the Costain area of Osogbo, business are operating on government land in Okefia and Otaefun area of Osogbo and some families are now selling government land to people in Ede, just adjacent Adeleke University High School.

“People now build permanent structures on government lands without even approaching relevant authorities for approval on whatever it is that they want to do.

“So I have ordered an immediate check of all lands belonging to Osun State Water Corporation and I have ordered an immediate evacuation of all private properties on these lands.

“This will no longer be accepted, we’ll evacuate all of them and put the land to proper use in such a way that it will generate needed revenue for the state.

“This we will start by marking all the houses that are on government lands and we expect all occupants to come forward with relevant documents they have as a proof that they actually own or bought these lands.

“Let me also advise that our people should be careful of the sources they are buying lands from because whoever buys government land from an individual has just thrown money away” he concluded

After the inspection, Hon. Oyedotun promised that this is not the usual check and abandon approach of times past, the agency will come up with sustainable approach that will audit the agency’s lands and develop best methods to maximize its utilization.

The Chairman was joined on the tour with the Commissioner for water resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi, General Manager Osun Water corporation, Mrs Dupeola Jokotola and departmental heads of the osun state water corporation.
