  • Journalist only invited over a petition against him.

The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, has explained that FCT Police didn’t detain or extort Authority Newspaper Reporter.

He, also disclosed that the police operatives of the command didn’t request nor collect a dime from the reporter, as alleged.

In a statement signed by SP Josephine Adeh, Anipr Police Public Relations Officer, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Commissioner noted, “Contrary to the news making the rounds over the alleged arrest and detention of one Daniel Tyokua, a reporter for Authority Newspaper, earlier today, being June 26, 2024, by FCT police operatives, the command wishes to state clearly that Mr. Daniel has not been arrested or detained as alleged but was only invited over a petition written by his own community (Tiv) against him concerning an alleged false publication he made on the emergence of one Mr. Andrew Akuma as the new (Ter) leader of Tiv people in Abuja Municipal Area Council, which they claim could cause a crisis in the community.

“Also, the police operatives of the command didn’t request nor collect a dime from the reporter, as alleged. He was asked to go, as the other party wasn’t on the ground for the scheduled interview and interrogation by the police operatives.”

Consequent to the above, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, cautions against the peddling of false information that may damage the image of the police. He therefore calls for verification and evaluation of all received information, as misinformation could prove dangerous to the populace.
