A 26-year-old woman, Omorogbe Jennifer Soni, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for assaulting a police officer in Ajah, has been arraigned in court.
Jennifer, who was caught on camera assaulting a police officer in Ajah on February 21, 2024, was arrested and arraigned at the Etiosa Magistrate Court, Ajah and has been remanded to the Kirikiri Female Correctional Centre.
According to the charge sheet obtained by Vanguard, the defendant was arraigned on a five-count charge.
The charge sheet claims that on the 21 of February 2024 at about 1 PM in front of North West Filling Station, along Lekki-Epe expressway, Ajah, Jennifer Soni in the Eti-Osa Magisterial District drove a Mercedes Benz 4matic with Reg. No: ABJ 732 AY to obstruct the highway for other road users and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 39 (3) of the Transport Sector Reform Law of Lagos State 2018.
Accordingly, Jennifer is accused of unlawfully obstructing a woman, Superintendent of Police Comfort Areghan, while performing lawful duty as the Divisional Traffic Officer and thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 174(b,e) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
And also unlawfully assaulted and injured SP Comfort Areghan by pushing her turbulently to the ground into the mud in her police uniform while controlling traffic, thereby committing an offence punishable under sections 172 and 173, respectively, of the criminal laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned until March 27, 2024, for the next hearing.
