The news of Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face and Annie Idibia’s divorce after 12 years of marriage has sparked strong reactions from celebrities, including actress Mary Remmy Njoku and media personality Toke Makinwa.
Njoku took to Instagram to criticise 2Face for announcing the separation at a time when Annie was already facing public criticism over her appearance in a reality TV show.
She accused him of embarrassing his wife when she was at her lowest.
She wrote, “Bro, Annie has a family o! Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices. But since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. It’s your choice. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you!”
Toke Makinwa also called out 2Face for making the announcement public, saying he should be ashamed.
She wrote, “This is wrong on all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on, if you think she’s alone, let me tell you now that you’ll have to fight all of us.”
Businesswoman, Ifedayo Agoro also reacted, saying 2Face had treated Annie badly for years and should not have made things worse by announcing the divorce publicly.
She wrote, “First, they groom you, then you lose yourself, and then they dump you. I am so angry! I usually don’t talk about things like this, but this is disgusting behavior by this man.
“In a time when this woman is already being insulted, you had to say this? Knowing you’ve been embarrassing her publicly for years? Why now? Why make things worse for her?
“Never ever choose a man over yourself. No one is INDISPENSABLE! Gosh!”
Social media influencer, Daniel Regha also shared his opinion, calling 2Face’s public announcement unnecessary.
He wrote, “2Face coming online to announce his separation from Annie is kinda petty. This better not be for that reality show. Even if they are truly having issues and want a divorce, there’s no reason to make it messy. They should handle it like adults, at least for the sake of their children. It doesn’t matter who is at fault.”
Meanwhile, comedian Nasboi reacted to people saying they no longer believe in marriage because of 2Face and Annie’s divorce.
“One celebrity divorce, and you start saying marriage is not for you. But you forget your parents have been married for over 30 years. Stop using celebrity marriages to judge all marriages. If you like, don’t marry, that’s your business,” he wrote.
Recall that Tribune Online reported 2Face, confirmed on Sunday night that he and his wife, Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia, are filing for divorce.
After weeks of speculation about the state of their marriage, the iconic musician broke his silence in a statement addressed to his fans and well-wishers.
“Hello to my beautiful people of all Federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now and currently filed divorce. I would grant a press release soon to say my story, not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life; but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offense. Stay blessed my people. I love you all,” 2Face wrote.
