Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Police Command for the arrest of suspected political thug, Saheed Kareem Tanfeani, describing the development as a major step in ongoing efforts to tackle violent crimes in the state.

The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who said the governor also urged security agencies to intensify the manhunt for other wanted suspects allegedly linked to political violence across the state.

According to the statement, Tanfeani is alleged to have participated in the killing of Ezekiel Olapade, which occurred around the premises of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat last Sunday.

Governor Adeleke called on the police to intensify efforts to apprehend other suspects identified as Asiri Eniba, Delaw, Ojuyobo, Aleba, Lucifer, Lasisi and other individuals allegedly involved in acts of violence and intimidation in the state.

The governor also urged the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the case and ensure the suspect is diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He further reiterated his earlier call for a change in the leadership of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command, alleging that the continued leadership of the unit by an officer identified as Eluku had raised concerns because of his alleged association with some of the wanted suspects.

“The arrest of Saheed and Akilapa is a good development. We are watching to see how far the police will prove its readiness to enforce the law and secure our people. For now, we thank the Inspector-General of Police, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police and others who made this possible,” the governor said.
