A 29-year-old man, Joseph Yakubu, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for killing his father, Yakubu Dalyop with a pestle.
Yakubu was said to have picked a pounding pestle and hit his father during a disagreement which led to his unconsciousness and eventual death.
The suspect who committed the act in the Anglo-Jos community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state was among several other suspects paraded for various offences on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet at the Command’s headquarters in Jos.
According to the Commissioner, “On 20/02/2024 at about 6pm, information was received at the Anglo-Jos division by a good Samaritan that on 15/02/2024 at about 8pm, one Joseph Yakubu, male, 29yrs of Kambel Anglo-Jos had minor misunderstanding with his father, one Yakubu Dalyop aged 49yrs.
“As a result, the son took a pounding pestle and hit the father on the head. The father became unconscious and was rushed to Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, he died on 19/02/2024 at about 1pm while receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested while the corpse was deposited at the same hospital mortuary. The case is under investigation, and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the case.”
The Commissioner who was recently deployed to Plateau state added that after studying the security situation bedevilling the state, he had designed a new workable operational template for the Command to flush out criminals from their nests across the state.
He said the application of the new operational strategies within few weeks in office had started yielding positive results with the massive arrest of criminals paraded for various offences including criminal conspiracy, trespass, disturbance of public peace, kidnapping and culpable homicide
He assured the people of adequate protection of their lives and property while soliciting their support and cooperation to achieve the objective
