Calls for sacrifice by Nigerians and prayers for peace and security in the country topped Easter messages sent by senators on Saturday.
Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his death, to give salvation to mankind.
President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, leading his colleagues in sending messages, asked Christians to borrow a leaf from Jesus Christ’s life of humility, love, and sacrifice.
According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President “congratulated all Christians at home and in the Diaspora for successfully completing the 40 days Lent and witnessing yet another Easter celebration.”
Akpabio noted, “Just as Jesus Christ in His humility and love offered Himself for the redemption of mankind, I admonish us all to emulate Him and make sacrifices for one another.
“Jesus Christ is an embodiment of love and as His followers, we are expected to radiate love in every aspect of our life, especially in this season of Easter.
“Let us, therefore, show love to one another, our neighbours, our leaders and our dear country. If we do not show love to our leaders and country, no one will do that for us.”
His Deputy, Sen. Barau Jibrin, congratulated Christians on Easter, urging them to apply love, peace, perseverance, and forgiveness in their daily lives.
Jibrin’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, in a statement, further quoted him as calling “on all Nigerians to reflect on the state of the nation and rededicate themselves in prayers and sacrifice even as he said the country’s challenges were surmountable if the people unite, love one another and pray for the country and its leadership to move the nation forward.”
A similar message came from the immediate-past President of the Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, who, while acknowledging the hard times Nigerians faced at the moment, urged them to remain resilient in prayers to “rise above adversity.”
His media aide, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, quoted him as saying, “As we celebrate Easter, we are reminded of the hope and renewal that this special season brings to us all. It is a time to come together with loved ones, reflect on our blessings, and look forward to a brighter future.
“In the midst of the challenges facing our nation, we must remember that with faith, resilience, and unity, we can overcome any adversity.
“Let us use this Easter as a time to come together as a nation, to support one another, and to work towards a better future for all Nigerians.”
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Sen. Adeola Olamilekan, sought prayers for peace and security in the country, reassuring Nigerians that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would deliver on its promise of renewed hope and prosperity.
Olamilekan, who is from Ogun, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government at both federal and state levels is laying a foundation for “positive economic development.”
A statement by his Media Advisor, Chief Kayode Odunaro, reads partly, “President Tinubu has so far shown courage in doing what is right for the nation at this time and I have no doubt that we will be seeing more dividends of democracy soon.
“In addition to joining efforts at resolving our economic and security in whatever capacity, I call on all to pray for peace and security during the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and beyond.”
