Free train ride: Osun assures holiday-makers of safety, denies insecurity

The Osun State Government has reassured residents and visitors of the state of adequate security, urging those outside the state to disregard social media reports suggesting otherwise.

This follows recent communal clashes in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, which resulted in casualties and property destruction.

However, while receiving holiday-makers who arrived in Osogbo via the state’s Imole Free Train Service, the Commissioner for Commerce, Bunmi Jenyo, encouraged them to explore the state without fear.

“It is another successful outing for us in Osun with the movement of holiday-makers from Lagos and Ogun States to Osun State. We appreciate Governor Ademola Adeleke for this kind gesture,” Jenyo said.

He urged visitors to ignore claims of insecurity circulating online, emphasizing that Osun remains peaceful.

“Osun is safe. Disregard anything you see on social media purporting that Osun is unsafe. The current administration has done a lot to keep all parts of Osun safe, and we are all living witnesses to the successes achieved across all sectors.

“Opposition may be using social media to say other things, but don’t believe them. I urge them to go around and see projects going on in different parts of the state. Osun is safe,” he added.

A Sunday statement from the Information Officer, Ministry of Commerce, Ademiotan Adegbulugbe, confirmed that the Imole Free Train Service, sponsored by Governor Adeleke’s administration, transported hundreds of holiday-makers from Lagos to Osogbo on Saturday evening.
