A pastor, identified as Segun Adegboyega, has been reportedly killed by people suspected to be herdsmen on his farm in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The incident happened on Monday on the deceased’s farm located at Gege village on Ogbomoso-Iseyin Road.
Investigation further revealed that three persons have been arrested in connection with the killing, and they have been moved into the custody of the Owode Police headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, has appealed to the people of the town to remain calm over the incident, assuring them that those responsible for the killing would not go unpunished.
Addressing them on Monday evening after the incident, Olaoye promised to work with security agents to get justice for the family of the deceased.
The monarch said, “As your father, I wish to say, this is an ugly situation and it is uncalled for. I have spoken my mind to the Area Commander of Owode Police headquarters, who is here with me and I want to assure you that justice would be served. I equally sympathise with every one of you, may God continue to watch over you and the entire land of Ogbomoso.”
As of press time, efforts to get police reactions were proved abortive, as Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso’s mobile number was not reachable.
Herdsmen attacks have been rampant in Oyo.
Recall that in October 2023, it was reported that there was palpable fear at Apalokun village in the Iwerele, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, as many persons were reportedly feared dead in a clash between Operation Burst, Oodua Peoples Congress, Amotekun, Soludero and a group of herdsmen.
Investigations revealed that a group of herdsmen invaded a farm in the community with their cattle and grazed on it, a situation which led to the demise of the owner of the farm during the argument.
Also, crops worth thousands of naira were destroyed in the process.
