Press Statement: The Osun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke has felicitated with workers on this year’s May Day, calling on government at all levels to prioritise workers’ welfare.
In a statement he personally signed, the frontline governorship candidate described workers as ”creators of wealth and prosperity, deserving of first-line attention by elected leaders at the three levels of government.
“Building and nurturing human capital is a strong condition for the success of any society. Within the governmental system, building infrastructure should be conditioned upon generous attention to the welfare of public servants. As the tool for governance of the society, their salaries, allowances, gratuities, and pensions should never be handled with levity.
“It is inhuman and ungodly to deny workers their rightful pay and entitlements. It is even unpardonable to maltreat retirees by withholding or diverting their gratuities and pensions. The government must as a matter of standing policy accord workers their due rights timely and as a necessity, not exigency.
“For me as a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, I am committed to addressing all outstanding entitlements of Osun state workers and retirees. Our government will immediately institute a committee to assess, collate and settle outstanding entitlements. The committee will have representatives of workers, pensioners, and other stakeholders as members. This will ensure comprehensive resolution of all issues relating to salaries, gratuities, and pensions”, Senator Adeleke noted.
While informing workers that a committee is already working on the subject before the election date, Senator Adeleke said “Prioritisation of workers’ welfare is one of his cardinal agenda”, calling on public servants to mobilise to enthrone PDP for a pro-workers administration in July.
“As we celebrate 2022 May Day, let’s challenge ourselves to mobilise for a PDP government in Osun state. My government when elected will not disappoint the labour movement. Through open government practices, strong trust will be established as I will restore the glorious days of the public service through regular training, promotions, capacity building, and regular payments of salaries, gratuities, and pensions”, the governorship candidate stated.
