OSSCE Ila Reinstates Suspended Students

The management of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, has reversed the suspension of 18 student leaders earlier sanctioned for leading a peaceful protest against fee hikes in the institution.

The students, who had in March staged a demonstration over what they described as “outrageous and unaffordable” tuition and ancillary charges, were suspended indefinitely after the protest.

The management had accused them of engaging in acts capable of disrupting academic activities.

However, months after persistent appeals by the affected students and pressure from civil society and education stakeholders, the institution’s authorities announced their reinstatement.

In a circular signed by the Registrar, Mr. A.O. Abiodun, and addressed to the affected students, the college said the management had “magnanimously approved” their reinstatement after due consultations.

“The College Management magnanimously approved that you should be reinstated to complete your academic activities upon the submission of a court affidavit and a letter of undertaking to maintain good conduct. Consequently, you are hereby reinstated immediately with retrospective effect from May 5, 2025,” the letter read in part.
