No Deal with APC on Sharing Legislative, LG Seats, Our Agreement is Mainly on Presidential Election- Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied reaching an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share local government positions and legislative seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor said the political understanding between him and the Presidency was limited to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that there was no agreement to share seats in the National Assembly or the Osun State House of Assembly.

Adeleke’s position followed reports circulating on social media alleging that the agreement included sharing local government positions, Senate seats, House of Representatives seats and State Assembly seats between the Accord Party and the APC in Osun State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor dismissed the reports as false, describing the alleged arrangement as “mere fabrication and fake news”.

He explained that discussions on resolving the lingering local government crisis in the state were aimed at protecting the interests of both APC chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors.

“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for. As at now, all stakeholders agreed that restoring grassroots governance is a condition for our successful campaign ahead of the 2027 elections,” Adeleke said.

The governor assured residents that efforts to resolve the local government crisis would be concluded before the end of the year.

He maintained that the political alliance with the Presidency was strictly for the presidential election and would not prevent political parties from contesting other elective positions.

“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear president is re-elected. All other legislative positions are open for competition,” he said.

Adeleke added that he would campaign for Accord Party candidates seeking election into the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.

“I will work and campaign for Accord candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly,” the governor stated.

He urged political parties to campaign for their respective candidates, noting that the final decision rested with the electorate.

“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will do for Accord candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate who has the final say,” he said.
