PDP Accuses Police of Bias, Demands Arrest of APC Chieftains Over Teen’s Murder

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Osun State Police Command of handling the investigation into the murder of teenager Ezekiel Olapade with bias, calling for the arrest and investigation of APC chieftains it alleged were linked to the killing.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, alleged that the police had failed to investigate key individuals mentioned in connection with the murder of 14 year old Ezekiel Olapade, who was killed on June 21, 2026, and had instead focused attention on the PDP Chairman of Irepodun Local Government.
While expressing sympathy with the family of the deceased, the PDP insisted that everyone connected with the incident should be investigated and brought to justice, irrespective of political affiliation.
“We again extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. We reiterate our demand that every person connected with this heinous crime be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice, irrespective of political affiliation or status,” the statement read.
The party alleged that eyewitnesses and the victim’s parents identified a political campaign vehicle bearing the inscription “Ajisope AMBO” as the vehicle in which the attackers arrived, claiming that the slogan is associated with some APC political figures in the state.
According to the PDP, “These claims deserve a thorough, professional and impartial investigation.”
The party further alleged that hours before the attack, the court-sacked APC “Yes or No” Chairman of Irepodun Local Government allegedly contacted the Amotekun Commander in the council and warned operatives to vacate their office within the secretariat, threatening that any officer who returned would be shot.
It claimed that the Amotekun office was later attacked by suspected political thugs and that the incident was reported to the Osun State Police Command by the Amotekun Corps Commander.
The PDP also referred to one of the suspects arrested in connection with the incident, Saheed Kareem, popularly known as “Tanfeani,” who allegedly stated during a media interview while in police custody that he serves as an Executive Assistant to the court-sacked APC chairman of Irepodun Local Government.
According to the party, the statement raises important questions that should not be ignored by investigators.
The PDP, however, expressed concern that there had been no publicly known effort by the police to question those mentioned in connection with the allegations.
“Instead, attention appears to have been curiously shifted toward the PDP Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, despite there being no publicly known evidence linking him to the incident,” the statement added.
The party also condemned the reported invasion of the residence of its Irepodun Local Government chairman on June 29 by police officers allegedly acting on the directive of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
According to the statement, the PDP chairman said he was never invited by the police before the operation and that property at his residence was damaged during the raid.
Describing the development as disturbing, the PDP said the action was capable of creating the impression that the investigation was being deliberately diverted from individuals allegedly linked to the crime.
The party called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant institutions to closely monitor the investigation and ensure that it is conducted fairly, professionally and without political interference.
Among its demands, the PDP called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the murder of Ezekiel Olapade; an investigation into the alleged threats made against Amotekun personnel before the attack; the questioning of the alleged owners of the vehicle reportedly used by the attackers; an explanation from the Osun State Police Command over the reported operation at the residence of the PDP chairman; and assurances that security agencies would remain politically neutral.
“The PDP remains committed to peace, justice and the rule of law. We will continue to stand with the family of the late Ezekiel Olapade in their pursuit of justice and will resist every attempt to politicise or compromise the investigation. Justice must not only be done; it must also be seen to be done,” the statement concluded.
Efforts to obtain reactions from the Osun State Police Command and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
