Governor Adeleke Inspects Sabotaged Section of LAMECO Bridge, Condemns Anti-Development Politics

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Friday inspected the allegedly vandalised section of the LAMECO Bridge in Osogbo, describing the incident as a deliberate act of sabotage against public infrastructure and condemning what he called “anti-development politics.”
A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said Adeleke received a briefing from engineers of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure during the inspection. The governor also referenced a similar reported incident at the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife.
Expressing concern over the development, Adeleke said political contests should be driven by ideas, performance and service to the people rather than the destruction of public assets.
“Election is about the people voting for the leaders of their choice. Our job as politicians is to market our plans and records. Why would any genuine politician arrange to destroy a beautiful edifice like the LAMECO Bridge because of an election? That conduct is a hate crime against the people of Osun State,” the governor said.
He further alleged that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) was behind the incident, urging political actors to embrace peaceful and issue-based campaigns.
“It is so immoral that Osun APC is not even ashamed of its masterminding such sabotage. I call on politicians to play the politics of development. These infrastructures were built with public funds. Why should we endanger the lives of our people and waste public resources simply because of elections?” Adeleke stated.
The governor commended officials of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for their prompt response to the incident and directed that security around major public infrastructure across the state be strengthened.
“I hereby direct immediate surveillance and monitoring of key infrastructures. We must secure public assets in the best interest of the state and her residents,” he said.
Adeleke stressed the need to protect government projects from vandalism, saying public infrastructure belongs to the people and must be safeguarded irrespective of political differences.
