World Read Aloud Day, Free Vaccine For Literacy – UBEC Boss

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Commission, Hamid Bobboyi, has described the World Read Aloud Day as a free vaccine for literacy.

He spoke in Abuja Wednesday during an event held in commemoration of the 2022 World Read Aloud Day, organized by UBEC in partnership with the Universal Learning Solutions (ULS).

The World Read Aloud Day is held yearly to celebrate the joy of reading, especially with children.

Bobboyi said: “The World Read Aloud Day aims at expanding children’s interest in books, vocabularies, comprehension, grammar and attention which could be seen as a free vaccine for literacy.”

Director of Academic Services, UBEC,  Roseline Medubi, said: “Reading is fun, it provides for long-term growth and productivity, and Jolly Phonics has assisted us in achieving this objective”.

Chief Executive Officer of ULS, Gary Foxcroff, said in conjunction with UBEC, his organization had trained over 6,000 Nigerian teachers on Jolly Phonics in the last 12 months.

Foxcroff said Jolly Phonics methodology is widely recognized as the most effective tool to enable children to develop the skills required to read and write confidently in the English language.
