The President of ACCI, Dr. Al-Mujtaba Abubakar in his remark said “the lack of access to water has contributed to the out of school children crisis whereby children go a long distance to fetch water, it is largely responsible for poor hygiene and also frustrates the drive for gender equality as water plays a critical role in the daily activities of women.”

According to the United Nations water data shows that Nigeria ranks least among peers in the region with regards to the proportion of water bodies with good water quality that it possesses. Besides Uganda which presented no data, Nigeria ranked least with 12% quality water compared to Benin Republic and Niger Republic with 89% and 60% respectively.

He stated that, “water availability is key to diversification of the economy especially in the agricultural sector which will boost irrigation farming and will help curb the farmers-herders clashes as water is a key in ranching.”

He called for improved funding to Bridge the water infrastructural gap which is needed to attract private investors that will help in the access to quality water.
