Police Arrest Adeleke’s Media Aide in Ede, Four Others Reportedly Traced

Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have reportedly arrested Uthman Olalekan, a media aide to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in Ede.
Olalekan was reportedly arrested at his residence in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026, by four police officers attached to the State CID.
The development has generated concern among political stakeholders in the state, particularly coming shortly after the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election.
Sources familiar with the development also alleged that police operatives were tracking four other media aides associated with the governor.
The identities of the four other aides could not be independently confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
The reason for Olalekan’s arrest was not immediately known.
As of press time, the Osun State Police Command had not officially confirmed the arrest or disclosed the allegation against the media aide.
The reported arrest has prompted calls from some political stakeholders for the police authorities to provide a clear explanation and ensure that Olalekan’s rights are protected.
Some stakeholders urged the police to either release him if there is no lawful basis for his detention or charge him before a court if an offence has been established.
They also appealed to the authorities to ensure that he is not subjected to intimidation, harassment or any form of unlawful treatment while in custody.
The development comes amid heightened political tension in Osun following the recent governorship election, with some stakeholders expressing concerns about the treatment of political actors and their supporters.
Reacting to the development, some political observers described the reported arrest as concerning and urged the police to handle the matter transparently to prevent further tension.
However, the police have the legal responsibility to investigate alleged offences and arrest individuals where there are reasonable grounds to do so. Such powers are expected to be exercised in accordance with the law and the fundamental rights of suspects.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the reported arrest or the allegation that four other media aides were being traced.
