The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its governorship primary earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, attributing the development to the lingering crisis within the party’s national leadership.
Speaking at a press conference held on Monday, at the state party secretariat in Osogbo, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Sunday Bisi, said the suspension and counter suspension of key national officers which led to the failure of the party to conduct congresses to elect delegates for the primaries had created uncertainty that made it impossible for the Primaries to proceed as scheduled.
Bisi also disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the only aspirant who purchased, submitted and was screened for the nomination in line with the official timetable, noting that the Governor completed all required procedures, including the submission of his forms between October 13 and 25, and screening on October 30, where he was cleared without reservations.
“This crisis reached a point where the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses, scheduled for November 24th and 29th respectively, could not hold. These are the very congresses where delegates to the primaries are elected. As youare all aware, the issues leading to these disruptions are presently before various courts across the country.
“In the light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable, indeed unavoidable, that the PDP governorship primaries earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, can no longer hold as scheduled. It is equally important to restate, for the record, that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the sole aspirant who purchased, submitted, and was duly screened in line with the party’s official timetable”, the chairman stated
He further revealed that based on the information available to him, Governor Adeleke “may no longer be interested” in seeking the PDP ticket for the 2026 election unless a resolution endorsed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is reached within the commission’s timeline.
While noting that the conduct of primaries remains the responsibility of the PDP National Secretariat, Bisi affirmed that the state chapter felt obligated to keep party members and the public informed of ongoing developments.
He, however assured that efforts are ongoing at both state and national levels to ensure a lawful and timely resolution to the challenges.
“We assure you that the leadership of the party, both at the state and national levels, is working round the clock to ensure a lawful, workable, and timely resolution to the challenges at hand”, Bisi added.
