Adeleke Warns Accord Members Against Anti-Party Activities Ahead of Legislative Elections

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has warned members of the Accord against engaging in anti-party activities ahead of the forthcoming National and State Assembly elections.
Adeleke issued the warning at a stakeholder’s forum held in the state, where party leaders and members reviewed preparations for the legislative elections and discussed the need for unity within the party.
The governor said members of the party were expected to work for the success of Accord candidates, warning that anyone found working against candidates fielded by the party would face severe sanctions.
“I task us to support our party candidates in the forthcoming legislative elections. We must avoid anti-party activities. Severe sanction awaits any party member who works against the candidates of the party,” Adeleke said.
The stakeholder’s meeting, which was held behind closed doors, reportedly considered allegations that some Accord members were supporting candidates of other political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting resolved that disagreements arising from the selection of legislative candidates should be settled internally, urging all members to unite behind candidates already fielded by the party.
It also warned that no Accord member should sponsor, campaign for or work for legislative candidates of other political parties.
The stakeholders directed the establishment of a small committee to examine constituencies where alleged cases of anti-party activities had been reported and take appropriate measures to address the situation.
The Accord leadership in the state was equally directed to activate its monitoring mechanisms to identify members involved in such activities and call them to order.
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke used the occasion to appreciate members of the party for their loyalty and support during what he described as a challenging electioneering period.
“I am deeply grateful to our party members for their depth of loyalty and courageous disposition throughout the democratic struggle. Osun people trusted us and they fought for us under the divine direction of God Almighty,” he said.
The governor also commended the people of Osun State, the electoral commission, party leaders and members for their roles in the democratic process.
“We praise God Almighty, the courageous people of Osun State, the electoral commission and you, our loyal party members and leaders. I will remain steadfast in my commitment to the people, the party and God Almighty,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke further charged the party’s candidates to adopt an inclusive approach in their campaigns by reaching out to all sections of the party and mobilising members across different interests.
“I have also tasked our candidates to reach out to all segments of the party. We must run an inclusive campaign. All shades of opinion must be mobilised for resounding success in future elections,” the governor said.
The stakeholders’ forum ended with a call for unity, discipline and collective support for Accord candidates ahead of the forthcoming legislative elections.
