APC,Accord Collaboration Will Deliver 1.5m Votes for Tinubu in Osun, Says Basiru

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ajibola Basiru, has expressed confidence that the emerging cooperation between the APC and the Accord Party in Osun State will secure about 1.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Basiru made the disclosure on Sunday after paying a courtesy visit to Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, at the Government House in Osogbo.
According to him, the governor has endorsed President Tinubu for another term in office and expressed his readiness to campaign vigorously for the President ahead of the presidential election.
“I am also here to thank him for endorsing my leader and our presidential candidate and to also assure him that we are ready to work together to ensure that we deliver Osun massively for President Bola Tinubu,” Basiru said.
He added that Adeleke, during their closed-door meeting, indicated that his support for Tinubu would go beyond endorsement, saying the governor was prepared to join the campaign for the President’s re-election.
“The governor, during our closed-door meeting, has also said that not only is he endorsing the President, but he will also be on the field to campaign vigorously for President Bola Tinubu for the January 16 presidential election,” he said.
Basiru also called for unity among political actors in the state, stressing that the outcome of the recent governorship election should not be allowed to create divisions among Osun residents.
Speaking on the post-election violence recorded in parts of the state, the APC National Secretary said the situation had subsided but urged stakeholders to sustain the peace.
“On the post-election violence, I think the violence has subsided, but we must sustain the peace. Particularly, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, I want to enjoin them to resolve whatever issues they have about leadership in a peaceful manner,” he said.
He also appealed to the people of Osun to put the election behind them and focus on the development of the state.
“We also want to enjoin the Osun people. Election has come and gone; all of us belong to this place; we must work to ensure that we have meaningful infrastructure and a good living for the people of Osun,” Basiru said.
The APC chieftain further urged members of the party to close ranks and begin early mobilisation ahead of the presidential election.
“To my colleagues in the APC, we must close ranks and work together, work together to ensure victory for President Bola Tinubu in the January 16th election,” he said.
Basiru acknowledged the APC’s defeat in the recent Osun governorship election but maintained that the party performed creditably, noting that it secured 46 per cent of the votes.
He argued that a stronger working relationship between the APC and Accord could significantly increase the President’s vote in the state.
“You can even see from the last contest, my party performed creditably well in that election, scoring 46 per cent of the votes. In between the Accord and the APC, we have close to one million votes, and with the presidential election, I think we should be looking, if we worked together, at about 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu,” Basiru said.
He said the proposed collaboration would be critical to the APC’s efforts to strengthen its support base in Osun ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
