Osun State Government has warned residents, builders, tipper drivers against dumping of sand and other building materials on the road side within the state.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Transportation, Hon. Salaam Adewale stated this while responding to questions on a popular radio programme tagged ‘Aabo Loju Popo’, monitored in Osogbo.
He described dumping of sand on road side as a careless act that is capable of causing hindrance to other road users and also cause accidents that could lead to loss of lives and properties.
Hon. Adewale stated further that a lot of lives had been lost to the very careless act from builders and tipper operators, stressing that government will henceforth take actions against offenders.
He noted that after dumping the building materials on the road side , people don’t usually make use of them on time but leave it on the road for several weeks and months.
He called on members of the public, especially motorists to quickly report any of such cases, if found, to the Commissioner for Transportation at the Government Secretariat, for necessary action to be taken.
According to him, “People should know that what they are doing is completely wrong and dangerous. You can’t be hipping your sand on the road side, you are destroying the road and at the same time causing hindrance to other road users.
“Government will no longer take it, it is our duty to protect the interest of other road users and make our roads free and safe at all times”, the Governor’s aid stated.
